Renewable Energy

The world's number one source of fuel for vehicles and large machines is petroleum; and both petroleum and coal provide most of the fuel needed to generate and distribute the electricity that goes to homes, schools, offices, and factories. Petroleum and coal are considered to be non-renewable sources of energy. They have to be extracted or mined from underground deposits that are depleted within a number of years. These oil reservoirs and coal deposits are hard to find and considerable money, effort, and time are spent just to find out where they exist. Then more money, time, and labor are spent to separate the oil and the coal from the surrounding rocks that contain them.

Renewable sources of energy include the sun, the wind, flowing or moving bodies of water, and fuels which can be extracted from plants and animals. These sources of energy are available almost everywhere on earth. Solar panels, wind turbines, biogas digesters, and bio-diesel extracted from plants are becoming popular nowadays. What do you know about these sources of renewable energy? Find some information about these renewable energy sources from the Internet. Which of these energy sources do you think would “sell” well in your country? If you are a business major, what do you think will be the best way to make them more acceptable to consumers?
